Competent authority
The Úřad pro civilní letectví (ÚCL), the civil aviation authority, is responsible for uncrewed aircraft. It works with Czech air traffic control on the mapping tools.
Registration
Registration is done on the uas.ucl.cz portal, it is free, and the number received goes on the aircraft.
⚠️ It is valid for ONE YEAR, and that is this country's trap. France issues for five years, Austria for three. An operator applying a neighbouring country's habit finds themselves unregistered after thirteen months, with no screen to remind them.
The threshold follows the European regulation: 250 g, or any aircraft carrying a camera.
Remote pilot certification
Subcategories A1, A2 and A3 of the Open category apply, with European training and exams. A certificate from another member state is recognised.
Operating categories
Open, Specific and Certified, under Regulation (EU) 2019/947. Ceiling of 120 m above ground, within visual line of sight.
Airspace and official resources
The DronView application carries the map and is used to notify a flight. Zones read by colour: red for prohibition, yellow for an altitude limit or required coordination, blue for a temporary restriction.
The ÚCL and air traffic control are preparing a new mapping system meant to replace the current application. A guide written today may therefore describe a tool that changes.
National specifics
Notifying your flight in DronView is not optional for a significant share of operations. Consulting the map without declaring leaves the procedure unfinished, and it is the difference visitors most often miss.
Penalties run into tens of thousands of crowns, which is far from symbolic.
