d-flight: the Italian drone registration portal
Every operator established in Italy goes through d-flight: registration, a QR code to stick on the aircraft, and maps of restricted zones.

Who is behind d-flight
d-flight is Italy's national drone portal. It comes from a decision by ENAC, the civil aviation authority, and it is built and run by ENAV, the air traffic manager. That double parentage explains a common confusion: the rule comes from ENAC, the tool belongs to ENAV.
Registration is asked of any operator of a drone over 250 g, and of any drone carrying a camera whatever its weight. The portal also shows restricted zones, which are particularly strict above listed historic centres.

Open an operator account
The account is opened in the name of the person or company answering for the flights, not the pilot's. A company registers with its Italian tax number.

Collect the number and the QR code
d-flight issues an operator number and a QR code to print. The QR code goes on the aircraft: that is what an inspection reads in the field.

Check the zone before every flight
The portal's maps show the restrictions in force. The historic centres of Rome, Venice and Florence are effectively closed to flight without a specific authorisation.
Frequently asked questions
I am registered elsewhere in the EU, must I register again?
No. European rules provide for a single registration, in the state where the operator lives or is established, and that number is valid in every member state. So d-flight is for operators established in Italy.
Is an account required in the open category?
Yes as soon as the aircraft is over 250 g, or as soon as it carries a camera whatever its weight. Below that and with no camera, registration is not asked, but the flight rules still apply.
Must the QR code be on the drone?
Yes. The operator number and the QR code issued by the portal must be displayed legibly on the aircraft.
