Competent authority
Transportstyrelsen, the Swedish Transport Agency, is the authority for uncrewed aircraft.
Registration
⚠️ Sweden charges twice, and the second charge recurs. The registration application costs 190 kronor, and anyone registered on 1 January also pays a yearly register maintenance fee of 250 kronor. No other state in this wave bills annually like this.
Registration covers the operator, not the aircraft: a single number covers all your drones.
Remote pilot certification
The drönarkort A1/A3 is taken online with Transportstyrelsen: forty multiple-choice questions, 75 % pass mark, for 600 kronor. It is required in particular for class C1, C3 and C4 aircraft, and in practice from 250 g in the Open category.

Airspace and official resources
Transportstyrelsen publishes the zone map. Aerodrome surroundings, military areas and nature reserves make up most of the permanent restrictions.
National specifics
⛔ Since 1 January 2026, flying without a drone card with an aircraft of 250 g or more is a CRIMINAL offence. The announced penalty runs from thirty to a hundred and fifty day-fines, and up to six months in prison in serious cases. It is the strictest regime in this wave, and it is recent: a guide dated 2025 does not mention it.
The last transitional periods expired in 2026. What was tolerated under the old regime no longer is: aircraft class, drone card and registration are required without exception.
