Agricultural drone spraying

Spray drones apply crop protection products, fertilizers or seeds where ground equipment cannot go: wet fields, steep vineyards, small or irregular plots.

What spraying requires

  • An agricultural aircraft operator certificate: dispensing products from an aircraft requires one (14 CFR 137.11).
  • Records: the operator keeps, for each job, the customer, the date, and the name and quantity of the material dispensed (14 CFR 137.71).
  • A remote pilot certificate for each pilot (14 CFR 107.12).

What to tell the operator

  • The crop, the acreage and the field boundaries.
  • The product and the application rate on its label.
  • Nearby houses, roads, water and sensitive crops.

What it costs

Operators quote each job. The price depends on the size of the site, access, the number of flights and the deliverables you ask for. Describing the job precisely is the fastest way to comparable quotes.
