Thermal inspection

Drone thermal inspection

A thermal camera shows temperature differences: heat escaping from a building, trapped moisture in a flat roof, or a solar panel cell that no longer produces.

What you get

  • Thermal and visible images of the same areas, side by side.
  • The anomalies located on the roof, the facade or the solar array.
  • A report you can hand to a contractor.

Timing matters

Thermal readings depend on the weather and the time of day. Operators plan the flight for conditions that make the anomalies visible: let them suggest the window.

What to check before you hire

  • A remote pilot certificate with a small UAS rating: flying a drone for a business requires one (14 CFR 107.12).
  • Recent knowledge: the pilot must have passed the test or completed recurrent training within the last 24 calendar months (14 CFR 107.65).
  • Insurance: ask for a certificate of insurance that names the work you are hiring for.
  • The deliverables in writing: formats, resolution, and when you will receive them.

What it costs

Operators quote each job. The price depends on the size of the site, access, the number of flights and the deliverables you ask for. Describing the job precisely is the fastest way to comparable quotes.
