DJI Matrice 4T: Advanced Surveillance and Standoff Inspection

The DJI Matrice 4T is the surveillance-focused member of the Matrice 4 family, optimised for long-range observation and security missions. At 1,219 grams, it carries a 112× hybrid zoom, a VOx 640×512 thermal camera and a triple 48 MP RGB lens system — in a compact form factor deployable in under five minutes.

It provides a lighter and more agile alternative to the Matrice 4TD for operators whose priority is long-range observation rather than mapping.

Technical specifications

112× hybrid zoom

The Matrice 4T's telephoto sensor delivers up to 112× magnification in hybrid mode (168 mm optical + digital). At 200 metres altitude, it is possible to identify an individual, read a licence plate or detect a millimetre-scale anomaly on a façade — from a position beyond visual and audible range.

This capability is decisive for:

  • Discreet surveillance without disturbing the subjects observed
  • Structural inspection at regulatory safe standoff distance
  • High-resolution documentation without approaching hazardous zones

VOx thermal camera — 640 × 512 px

The next-generation vanadium oxide (VOx) detector delivers a superior signal-to-noise ratio compared to standard amorphous detectors. Thermal sensitivity below 50 mK, measurement range from -20 °C to +550 °C, 30 Hz acquisition.

Real-time thermal-visible overlay localises thermal anomalies within their visual context — essential for field inspection reports.

Triple RGB lens — 48 megapixels each

  • Wide-angle: 24 mm equivalent, f/1.7 — area overview and zone coverage
  • Medium telephoto: 70 mm equivalent, f/2.8 — identification at medium distance
  • Telephoto: 168 mm equivalent, f/2.8 — base of the 112× hybrid zoom

Flight system

O4 Enterprise platform, omnidirectional 6-direction obstacle sensing, automatic return on signal loss or low battery. Compatible with FlightHub 2 for multi-drone supervision and automated patrol management (grid, corridor, orbit, point of interest).

Professional use cases

Surveillance and security

The 112× zoom allows observation from an altitude beyond hearing range. Thermal vision enables human presence detection at night and in low visibility. Ideal for automated industrial perimeter patrols, construction site monitoring and event security.

Infrastructure inspection

The 168 mm telephoto combined with hybrid zoom enables detailed structural inspection at standoff — cracks on a bridge deck, corrosion on a pylon, façade deformation — without interrupting operations or approaching hazardous zones.

Thermal audit

The 640×512 VOx sensor produces inspection-grade thermal data for rooftop diagnostics, solar farm inspections and electrical installation checks. Resolution is sufficient to identify a failing PV cell within an array of several thousand modules.

Crisis management

Live 4K video feed with 20 km range gives a crisis room real-time aerial visibility of the intervention zone. Dual thermal-visible imaging allows ground team guidance at a precision impossible from a fixed observation post.

Regulatory compliance

The DJI Matrice 4T operates under Specific category according to EASA UAS regulations. It is compatible with standard scenario STS-02 under applicable conditions.

  • Remote pilot: specific qualification required (theoretical + practical)
  • Flight authorisation: required per mission profile (BVLOS, populated areas)
  • Flight plan: mandatory for night operations and restricted zones
  • Liability insurance: professional coverage mandatory for all commercial missions
